The statistical data of the Nuorisotilastot.fi website regarding the youth work of municipalities is based primarily on information reported by the municipalities themselves. The data on population and the financial statements of municipalities is based on information from Statistics Finland. The data on youth councils is based on the information provided by Nuva ry. The data on youth information and counselling services is based on the information provided by Koordinaatti.
The estimate of those not in employment, education or training is based on the average figures for youth unemployment (15–24-year-olds) during the year in question. In the estimate, the amount not in employment, education or training (15–28-year-olds) varies so that it is at least 0.5 times the number of unemployed young people + the number of unemployed people and is likely to be 1.5 times the number of unemployed young people + the unemployed young people. This calculation formula can be used to estimate the size of the target group for outreach work on a municipal, sub-regional, regional and national level. These figures have been used in estimating the amount of young people not in employment, education or training, the range of variation being minimum–maximum.
